Leadership Rise w/ Brian Houston

Went to Leadership Rise tonight (Brian Houston was the guest speaker). I wasn't really listening during the first session as my friend had been taking photos throughout the night and we were having a look, onya Kymbo! During the second session, Brian spoke on "calling", more specifically, on the difference between following your heart and following what he called your 'hands' or what you're good at naturally. His theory was that many Christians underestimate the talents and abilities God has given them and want to lay them down to pursue the grandioso dreams in their heart. He saw this as defeating the purpose of the dream, as the talents and abilites we're given are for us to use with Purpose in mind (that purpose coming from the dream in your heart). His shared that his experience has shown him that as we are faithful with our talent etc that God has given us we see our dreams come to pass, not so when you lay your talents down to pursue your dreams. He saw a few reasons for wanting to pursue dreams rather than sticking with what we're good at, things such as escapism, a greater sense of nobility, greater sense of self-perception. So in the end the thought was for us to stick with what we're naturally good at (as God has created you that way - and for a purpose) and while you don't give up on your dreams, use them to give what you're doing purpose.

Still working out how I could apply this concept to my life. There are so many varied different things that I am 'naturally good at'. I wouldn't know where to startwith the whole concentrate on your talents idea - that could lead me in at least 5 different directions. Oh well, if you have any suggestions then offer them up.. maybe I shall go to sleep now and give my brain a break!
